Hearts for Hounds Team:
Hearts for Hounds is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
More about us. We are a pack of humans trying to make
a difference in the dog world! We were founded in 1997 by Bonnie Sheehan. Since
that time, we have rescued and placed over 12,000 dogs into permanent, loving homes.
Hearts for Hounds is a volunteer based organization; many of the volunteers
have regular full time jobs and donate their time and effort when they can.
Taking care of the dogs remains our top priority and requires many hours of time.
Please be patient with us if we take a little time in responding to your questions.
Please contact us if you have any questions or would like information on
adopting one of our dogs.
Bonnie 562-597-7137
Bonnie Sheehan: Bonnie founded Hearts for Hounds in 1997. After
years of volunteering at shelters, she saw a need for the dogs to receive a
second chance in life! There were too many animals in shelters that just needed
"one more day" to find the right home before their time was up! Sarah, a
darling 1 yr old German Shepard gave Bonnie the courage and determination to
make a life changing decision. Bonnie decided to do something about raising
awareness and rescuing animals when Sarah was euthanized. Sarah had sat
patiently for countless hours while Bonnie picked hundreds of ticks off of her.
Bonnie knew right then that Sarah only needed a couple of days to recover and
relax! She proceeded to give her a warm and soothing bath to relieve
the irritation. The next day, Bonnie was informed that Sarah had to be
euthanized because they ran out of space to house the dogs. Sarah unfortunately
never received the extra time needed to find a family she can call her own!
Even though it was a heartbreaking experience, Bonnie understood that because
there's a pet overpopulation problem in our society, the shelters can only do
what they can to accommodate the homeless animals! Bonnie decided to give up
her high paying career in the fashion industry and dedicate her life to
rescuing animals and raising awareness about the importance of spaying and
neutering a pet. She has no regrets giving up her BMW, Prada handbags, and
Armani suits, to answer to her calling and gift in life — helping animals
in need. Her love for the dogs beats any medicine on the market!
And of course, we cannot forget all of our wonderful volunteers! Without
them, we would not be able to continue our efforts!
